The story behind

The phaeton, named after the son of the Sun in Greek-Latin mythology, is a horse-drawn carriage that enjoyed its heyday in late 18th-century France and England. This lightweight, maneuverable vehicle allowed its driver to move around town with ease. Designer Pierre Marie presents a perspective of the back of the model in the Émile Hermès collection. The high wheels and delicate painted decoration are framed by a bandana list that gives depth and lightness to the design.
