The story behind
Based on the Della Cavalleria scarf design
Equestrian art is a prime topic in the Émile Hermès collection. Among his books, "Della Cavalleria" was an extraordinary equestrian depiction. The German author, Georg Engelhard von Löhneysen, printed this work in 1609 in his home in Bavaria. Made up of various baroque engravings on wood and leather, this book is an encyclopedia: dressage, anatomy, as well as tournaments and festivals, give way to remarkable and spectacular illustrations. Virginie Jamin also uses a few harness pieces as a muse, working the line in the same way as engravers. The design is reinterpreted in a unique double-sided version: multicolored madras on one side, monochrome finesse on the other.
